The Collegiate Training Initiative Process

This is a very basic description of how the CTI Program works.  Please note that individual experiences may vary:

*  Complete all of the required classes for your degree and the CTI program
*  Take the Federal Test being offered (AT-SAT or OPM Test)
*  Upon graduation from the CTI school and program, a notification will be sent to the CTI program Director informing them that you completed the requirements(AKA the recommendation)
*  A service area will request a list of eligible candidates from the the Director and you will be referred out to the Service Area on a "referral" list
*  The Service Area will now send you a packet of information in the mail, and ask that you fill it out and send it back in.  To see the documents included in this packet, click here
*  You will then be scheduled for your Psychological and Medical Tests.  For more detail, click here.
*  Eventually, your security clearance will be, "adjudicated in the positive" (meaning that you have passed the security clearance), and your medical will be cleared as well.

My advice:

1)  Print out your SF86 Form and begin filling it our EARLY! This is the form that took me several months to fill out because I have had several jobs and moved several times.  You will also need to obtain your Selective Service Number for the SF-86 Form.

2)  Obtain a copy of all three of your credit reports: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax. Each of these reporting agencies have slightly different reporting policies. It is not safe to assume that one report is "good enough." These reports must be checked for accuracy of information, and "cleaned-up" if necessary.

3)  Start making a timeline of the residences you have lived in so you know the dates you lived in each residence. Do the same thing for previous employers so you have accurate contact information for them also.

4)  Go to the Clerk of Court in your particular county and ask for a "Lifetime Driving Record." This will detail all of your tickets and fines and will be useful when filling out the SF86.
